There’s no question that there are plenty of things to do at Cuyahoga Community College, whether you actually attend as a student or are just part of the local community. Many of the Cuyahoga Community College events take place each year, and most are open to the general public. Here are a few of the biggest events on the schedule.
New Student Convocation
The New Student Convocation takes place at the start of the each new school year. It’s designed specifically to celebrate freshmen who are beginning their scholastic journey at Cuyahoga Community College. During this event, new students learn valuable information about campus life, academics, and student resources, as well as other essential tips they need to know. The New Student Convocation also offers students the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow newbies and faculty members. This event is an essential part of the new student learning process, and all newcomers are encouraged to participate.
The JazzFest is another event that is held annually at Cuyahoga Community College, and it’s one of the most anticipated celebrations of the year. The JazzFest has been an annual tradition ever since 1950 when it was founded by Dr. Thorn Horning and Reginald Buckner. They launched JazzFest in the hopes of fostering a local love of jazz, preserving its rich history, and, of course, bringing world-class musicians to the Cleveland area. This jazz music festival lasts for three days and is traditionally held both in the Playhouse Square theater and outdoors in the U.S. Bank Plaza. Both local and international jazz artists are featured, and this event is open to the public, as well as students and faculty members. There is even an outreach program that provides free access to the event for the underserved population in the area.
Parma Annual Choral Festival
If you enjoy choral music and the tones of harmonizing voices, then you’ll probably love the Parma Annual Choral Festival. Traditionally held in late October, this festival features choral students from Cuyahoga Community College who have partnered with choral groups from high schools throughout the Cleveland area to provide a night of entertainment through cheerful music. This event is open to the general public, campus students, and, of course, students of the high school choral groups featured in the concert.
Of course, Cuyahoga Community College also has a homecoming event every year—much like almost every other college in the country. A celebration for students, campus faculty, friends, family members, and anyone else who wishes to attend, this event is traditionally held in late September in the Metropolitan Campus Courtyard. It usually features a variety of popular performers, plus workshops and fun activities. Some of the performers who’ve headlined Cuyahoga Community College homecomings in the past include Twista, DJ Ryan Wolf, and Preme Dibiasi. The closing of the event usually features awards for the best student performers and workshops that the entire family can participate in.
There are plenty of events at Cuyahoga Community College to keep you occupied in your leisure time, whether you’re a student of the college, faculty member, or just a resident of the surrounding community.
